WASHINGTON, April 14, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --The Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) released the technical report Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program, 2010. This report describes the formulas used to allocate state and local JAG awards. The Bureau of Justice Assistance administers the JAG program, and BJS calculates the JAG formulas. The JAG program was created when Congress merged the Edward Byrne Memorial Grant (Byrne) program with the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant (LLEBG) program. The JAG program provides funding for law enforcement; prosecution and courts; prevention and education; corrections and community corrections; drug treatment; planning, evaluation, and technology improvement; and crime victim and witness programs.
