WASHINGTON, July 26 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Campaign for Tobacco- Free Kids honored Alabama State Senator Vivian Figures for her leadership in advocating policies to reduce tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke, especially among kids. Senator Figures was honored July 21st during the annual meeting of the National Conference of State Legislatures in Salt Lake City, Utah. Senator Figures has been a stalwart in fighting for smoke- free workplace legislation. In 2003, Figures introduced a bill that would require all indoor workplaces in Alabama to be smoke- free and during this year's session, introduced a state constitutional amendment to require that Alabama restaurants be smoke-free. While these bills have yet to pass, Senator Figures continues to fight for legislation that protects the public, especially children, from tobacco products.

"Senator Figures has been a leader in the fight against tobacco use and has made a real difference in protecting our kids from tobacco addiction," said William V. Corr, Executive Director of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. "The policies advocated by Senator Figures are helping to reduce smoking, save lives and save money by reducing smoking-caused health care costs."
