WASHINGTON, June 29 /U.S. Newswire -- The plight of Africa is in the spotlight thanks to recent interest by celebrities ranging from Angelina to Oprah to Bono. However, before the cameras and before the attention, The Leon H. Sullivan Foundation was on the continent working diligently and effectively to enhance the political, economic AND social development of Africa. The legacy continues as Summit plans are finalized for the 7th biennial Leon H. Sullivan Summit ("The Summit") in Abuja, Nigeria July 17-20.

In 1991, Rev. Leon H. Sullivan, a U.S. civil rights activist and international humanitarian, who was the first African- American to sit on the board of General Motors, created the African-African American Summit (now the Leon H. Sullivan Summit). Since its inception, the Summit has brought over 18,000 participants to Africa from all over the world. With the goal to build a bridge between Africa and the United States, The Summit worked quietly with U.S. government, corporate America African and African American leadership to produce the following:
