SPRINGFIELD, Ill., March 31 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich signed a statewide proclamation on March 19 proclaiming the Week of July 11-17, 2004 as National Fraud Awareness Week in Illinois. The proclamation recognizes the Illinois Bankers Association and all Illinois bankers in their efforts to curb identity theft and fraud. Several Illinois bankers were on hand on March 24 to personally thank the governor for his continued support and for signing the proclamation.

The National Fraud Awareness Week Proclamation recognizes that identity theft is the "Number One" consumer complaint of American consumers and the fastest growing crime in the United States and in Illinois. It also recognizes that "the bankers of Illinois and the Illinois Bankers Association embrace efforts to curb identity theft by spearheading a grassroots campaign during National Fraud Awareness Week to educate businesses and consumers about how to detect, report and deter fraud."
