WASHINGTON, Jan. 27 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Lois Short, assistant principal at Burrillville High School in Harrisville, R.I., has been named a finalist for the NASSP National Assistant Principal of the Year Award. The search for the National Assistant Principal of the Year began in late 2004 after each state principal's association selected its State Assistant Principal of the Year. From this pool of state award winners, a panel of judges gathered in Washington, D.C. to select three national finalists. Ms. Short is currently serving as the Rhode Island State Assistant Principal of the Year. Robin Martin from Moanalua High School in Honolulu, Hawaii and Daniel Matthews from Northview High School in Grand Rapids, Mich. are the other two finalists for 2005.
The NASSP State and National Assistant Principal of the Year Program annually honors a single winner from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the Department of Defense Education Activity (DODEA) schools. From that pool of outstanding administrators, one national winner is chosen. The state and national winners will be honored at a black-tie event in Washington, D.C., in the spring of 2005, for their efforts to make their schools a shining star in their community. During their stay in Washington, the honorees will participate in professional development and networking activities with their peers. The national winner will be awarded $5,000, which can be used in their school or for personal professional development. VIRCO Inc.
