FRIDAY, JUNE 30: FISHING -- Profile America: Friday, June 30th. With summer here, it's time to dust off the rod and reel, check the lures, buy some bait and head for the nearest river, lake or ocean. Fishing is one of the most popular activities in the nation, enjoyed by both adults and children. However, it becomes a serious endeavor for many adults. More than 34-million of them try their luck an average of 16 times a year. Eight-out- of-10 fish in fresh water, while the remainder prefer the ocean. Going fishing can be simple or costly. The average fisherman goes on 13 fishing trips a year, many of them involving boat rentals, guides, food and lodging - and, oh yes, fishing licenses.
