WASHINGTON, July 15 /U.S. Newswire/ -- In a press conference call today, Senator Conrad Burns (R-Mont.) pledged to continue to closely monitor Nielsen's activity and said that legislation would be considered, if necessary. Senator Burns convened hearings today to review the accuracy and fairness of Nielsen's new Local People Meter rating system.

At the hearings, Senator Burns presented evidence that the new rating system undercounts African American, Asian American, Hispanic and other minority communities. "Legislation is always an option," commented Senator Burns. "It's a foregone conclusion that whenever an issue comes before Congress that legislation is a possibility."
