CLEVELAND, March 30 /U.S. Newswire/ -- On Sunday, April 2, most of the United States will turn their clocks forward an hour as the nation switches to Daylight Saving Time (DST). The Fire Equipment Manufacturers' Association (FEMA, The Life Safety Group) reminds everyone that DST is a good time to review some cyclical safety chores, such as inspection of the fire extinguishers in your home and office, and a check of the batteries in your smoke detectors.

"Portable fire extinguishers are proven to save lives and protect property when a fire strikes," said Pat Jaugstetter, president of FEMA. "Extinguishers give people an essential, defend-in-place tool to either extinguish a small fire before it becomes a tragedy, or to give them the help they need to get out of a burning building before it's too late."
