WASHINGTON, May 12 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Following is a statement by Peter H. Kostmayer, president of Population Connection, on the FDA's Rejection of Over-The-Counter Status for Emergency Contraception:

"Today, Population Connection and its 90,000 supporters call on leaders of the House and Senate to look into the role political leaders played in the FDA's denial of over-the-counter sales for the morning after contraceptive drug Plan B(r). Plan B(r) can reduce the risk of pregnancy by up to 89 percent if used within 72 hours of unprotected sex and new evidence shows that the pills are more effective the sooner they are taken.
