WHAT: News Conference/Breakfast -- The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and the Museum of Science and Industry (MSI) of Chicago will hold a North American Occupational Safety & Health Week news conference at Old Ben no. 17, the Coal Mine Exhibit. Officials from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and ASSE will evaluate new workplace safety best practices; unveil a new federal mine safety product; view demonstrations of personal protection equipment (PPE); review coal mine fatalities, injuries, prevention efforts from 1900 to now; discuss the importance of workplace safety, what works, in light of the increased production to meet the spiraling global demand for energy.
