WASHINGTON, Feb. 21 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Sue Gunawardena-Vaughn, director of Amnesty International USA's Program to Abolish the Death Penalty, released the following statement on the impending execution of Michael Morales, scheduled for this evening at 7:30 p.m. PST:
"The lethal injection issues surrounding Michael Morales' impending execution further reinforce the fact that there is no humane way to take a life. Amnesty International commends the anesthesiologists and other medical personnel who took a principled stand, abided by their ethical obligations and refused to participate in this macabre protocol. The fact that the state of California would carry out this execution regardless flies in the face of human decency. In the interest of greater justice and compassion, we call on Governor Schwarzenegger to do everything in his power to halt this execution. The entire nation and world are watching. For California to proceed with this execution would be utterly shameful and reprehensible."See the full content of this document
