NEW YORK, April 7 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Rabbi Israel Singer, chairman of the World Jewish Congress (WJC), will attend the funeral of Pope John Paul II on Friday at the invitation of the Vatican.

Rabbi Singer has been instrumental in bringing together the Jewish and Catholic communities. He has met with over 30 cardinals in the past 2 years and worked closely with Pope John Paul II to help negotiate the Church's condemnation of anti-Semitism, and the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Vatican and the State of Israel. Singer helped negotiate the removal of a convent from the grounds of Auschwitz.
