DES MOINES, Iowa, May 6 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Retired Alaska Superior Court Judge Thomas B. Stewart, a key figure in Alaska's Constitutional Convention, will receive the Herbert Harley Award from the American Judicature Society (AJS) during the annual banquet of the Alaska Bar Convention and Judicial Conference on May 12, in Juneau, Alaska.

"No one has done more to foster an independent judiciary in Alaska, or to preserve the system of judicial selection based on merit that has served Alaskans so well," according to Alaska Supreme Court Justice Dana Fabe, a member of the AJS Executive Committee, who recommended Stewart for the award.
