WASHINGTON, April 7 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Board of Directors of The Latino Coalition (TLC) strongly condemns the actions of Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid for not allowing an immigration bill to go forward in the Senate floor. His opposition to allowing debates and votes on amendments to the Immigration Reform legislation is tantamount to opposing real reform.

"Senator Reid has blocked and obstructed every possible avenue to get a final bill approved by the United States Senate," said TLC President Robert Deposada. "Senator Reid has shown that he is willing to put partisan politics over the needs of our community and the country. If there were enough votes to kill all amendments to the compromise language of Martinez-Hagel, why then would the Democratic leader oppose bringing these amendments to the floor and cause the collapse of the first real chance in 20 years for comprehensive reform of our immigration policies? The fact is that his actions this week stand side by side with immigration reform opponents like Congressman Tom Tancredo. Both of them prefer to have this issue for partisan gains rather than reaching a common- sense solution."
