Mississippi Health Care Leader Elected Board Chair of Nachc

WASHINGTON, Oct. 20 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Mississippi native Bernard Simmons, CEO of the Southwest Health Agency for Rural People in Tylertown, Miss., has been installed to the post of Board Chair of the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC). Ceremonies took place at NACHC's 36th Annual Convention and Community Health Institute in Miami, Fla., where more than 2000 health center representatives assembled. Immediately after the NACHC conference, Simmons was called to Washington to testify before the House Energy and Commerce Committee about public health needs after Hurricane Katrina.

"Health centers in the Gulf Coast need resources to replace and repair facilities, restock their supplies, and all health centers in the region need resources to ensure that they can continue to provide urgent medical, mental health care, and enabling services to the thousands of individuals and families affected by this national disaster," Simmons told lawmakers during his testimony on Capitol Hill.
