RESTON, Va., Jan 19 /U.S. Newswire/ -- In response to Tuesday's Supreme Court ruling on physician-assisted suicide, the American Medical Student Association (AMSA), the nation's largest, independent medical student organization, supports the decision to uphold Oregon's right-to-die legislation. As future physicians, AMSA places particular importance on the autonomy of patients and on the physician-patient relationship, and recognizes that patients are the primary decision-makers for every aspect of their care including how to live the final moments of their lives, including the right to choose death.
The Supreme Court's decision upholds the power of individual states to regulate the practice of medicine, including terminally ill patients choosing death with dignity in the final stages of their lives.See the full content of this document
