WASHINGTON, Oct. 19 /U.S. Newswire/ -- With Hurricane Wilma's fury already causing evacuation orders for non-residents of the Florida Keys, The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) strongly urges all pet owners in the path of the storm to take their pets if they have to leave their homes.

In response to Hurricane Katrina, The HSUS launched the largest ever animal rescue effort in New Orleans and along other parts of the Gulf Coast, where residents were forced to abandon dogs, cats and other animals by the tens of thousands.
