WASHINGTON, July 28 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Speaking at the Aspen Ideas Festival, Alma J. Powell, board chairperson of America's Promise-The Alliance for Youth, released startling new research about what she calls the "American Dream Gap" -- the difference between what young people hope to achieve and what they believe they actually can accomplish.
Mrs. Powell shared new research findings drawn from the Voices report, a survey conducted on behalf of the America's Promise Alliance that polled young people ages 10 to 17. The survey addresses respondents' views of the importance and availability of the five fundamental resources in their lives and gauges their confidence in their ability to achieve future goals. One of the key findings in Voices indicates that there is a dichotomy between youngsters' hopes for their lives and their confidence in their ability to actually fulfill these hopes.
