ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 21 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) today urged Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco (D) to sign H.B.1262, an amendment to the state's medical assistance program, which would encourage community pharmacists to continue their participation in the federal-state Medicaid program and would encourage greater use of cost-saving generic medications. The measure was approved unanimously in both the Louisiana House and Senate.

"We applaud the Louisiana legislature for taking this important step in working with pharmacists in their state to find the highest level of savings on prescription drugs," said NCPA Executive Vice President and CEO Bruce Roberts, RPh. "Swift action by Gov. Blanco also will help ensure that patients in the Medicaid program in Louisiana will continue to be able to get their prescriptions filled at their local community pharmacy."
