National Report Ranks Tennessee Last in Protecting Kids From Tobacco; Most States Not Adequately Funding Tobacco Prevention

WASHINGTON, Dec. 2 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Tennessee ranks last in the nation in funding programs to protect kids from tobacco, according to a national report released today by a coalition of public health organizations. Tennessee currently spends none of its tobacco settlement revenue on tobacco prevention programs, despite the fact that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that Tennessee spend a minimum $32.2 million a year.

In contrast, the tobacco companies are spending a record $359.2 million a year to market cigarettes and other tobacco products in Tennessee.
