Restaurant Business Heats Up with Summer Travel-and-Tourism, Culinary Tourism

Summary

WASHINGTON, Aug. 1 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Scores of travelers are experiencing "culinary tourism" -- a movement gaining in popularity that explores food and drink options as destination attractions. The nation's 900,000 restaurants are gearing up to provide visitors as well as locals with memorable dining experiences in August, which is the most popular month of the year to dine out. This is largely due to the travel-and-tourism industry, according to National Restaurant Association research, which indicates that dining out is one of the most popular tourist activities once reaching a destination.

"Summer is the top season for vacationers hitting the road to relax, have fun and experience new places, and food is an important part of that experience," said Steven C. Anderson, Association president and chief executive officer. "Restaurants across the country are ready to provide those experiences, whether in a casual environment or with haute cuisine allowing visitors to discover the flavors of the local community and culture, as well as foods from around the globe."
