WASHINGTON, Jan. 16 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Liberty Coalition, a transpartisan network dedicated to protecting civil liberties and human rights, today co-hosted a symposium headlined by former Vice President Al Gore at Daughters of the American Revolution's Constitution Hall addressing recent reports that the White House authorized the National Security Agency (NSA) to eavesdrop on international phone calls made by citizens with alleged ties to terrorism.

The program addressed the constitutionality of the NSA program and its implications for civil liberties and executive power. Mr. Gore was introduced by conservative activist and former U.S. Representative Bob Barr (R-Ga.). Barr is a longtime advocate of personal liberty and ardent defender of the constitution. The event received considerable attention from leaders and the media as tickets sold out days before the event.
